For some on the Left Coast, the Pacific Ocean is in our blood. You can't live away from it. You grew up in it. You might feel more comfortable in the water than on land. Did you know ? You can have a full body Pacific Sea Burial.

Some men in California say "I want a VIKING sea burial !"The image of a wooden dinghy carrying your body out to sea ( Santa Cruz? North Shore? Mavericks? Hanalei Bay?) and somehow being set on fire by all your friends (on shore shooting flaming arrows? ) until it passes beyond the horizon out to sea. Sounds rebelliously romantic but is not actually possible for the following reasons:

It takes 3-4 hours of continuous burning of the human body at a temperature exceeding 1600 farenheit to cremate a body.Your craft would surely not last long enough to get out to the 600 ft depth required by California State Law. It looks good in the technicolor 1950's Viking movies but not too practical .

HOWEVER, you can have a PACIFIC SEA BURIAL in some areas.

This option takes alot of pre-planning and preparation. This is the method used by sailors and Pirates for centuries! In the past the body was wrapped in the canvas sail of the ship and sewn into it with cannon balls for balast.
